Intro from Jay Allison: Phoebe McIndoe’s “It’s Alright” came to us “over the transom,”. We review every piece that comes in, looking for work that pushes boundaries and for promising new talent.

Phoebe is a talented new producer, and her story is raw, and honest, and intimate. It’s deeply personal without being self-indulgent, and plays with some tricky production techniques. It is the kind of work we like to showcase here on Transom. And, it sounds like something that just had to be made.

“It’s Alright”

For years now I have been interested in exploring stories around adoption. My little brother is adopted and our relationship, over the years, has been so complex and challenging and sometimes rewarding. Every time I try to write I seem to be coming back to themes of relationships, families, loss and love. In fact, my cupboards are filled with notebooks, scrawled through with bad poetry, which try and fail to contain these ideas. And it seemed sad to me that these poems were sitting there, slowly gathering dust. I wanted to tell a story about our relationship through audio. One that I could really connect to.
